When Vep’s mother Lucy died on March 22, 1884, in Lawrenceville, PA, it was noticed in The Steuben Courier (Bath, NY) that she was the daughter of Captain Luke Parsons, who served in the cavalry in the War of 1812 and signed the articles of agreement to establish the of St. James' Episcopal Church in Woodstock, VT.

After the Civil War, Vep married Delphine Charles, who was born in West Cameron, Steuben County, NY. They had four children.

Sometime after Vep died in September 1890, Delphine moved to Washington, DC and made arrangements for Vep’s remains to be moved to Arlington.
